Three Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) officers and their Advisor (Selma Gurdal, Vice-President, Peter Alexander, Parliamentarian, and Lillie Schild, Secretary, Mrs. Solomon, Advisor) attended the first ever FBLA Sports & Entertainment Experience and Iowa Career Fair at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. Iowa is unique in that it has three conference centers in one and all-conference centers are connected to hotels and restaurants via an eight-mile skywalk in downtown Des Moines. FBLA students experienced behind the scenes and what it takes to put on an event, sometimes multiple events at one time between the three event centers. Students had breakout sessions and heard from managers, sales associates, and event coordinators. Each talked about their duties, publication, marketing, business office, their specific positions in the recruitment of sponsors, players, and advertising for sports, business, or community events. While at the Expo the events center also hosted the Iowa Career Fair with approximately 30 vendors and Iowa Workforce Development. The students were treated to a “WILD” Hockey game to end the day’s conference and events.
